Therapeutic Approaches
As a clinical social worker, I provide counselling using a collaborative, compassionate, and evidence-based approach. Therapy is tailored to each individual, couple or family, recognizing that no single method fits everyone. My work integrates the following therapeutic approaches:
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
Identify and change unhelpful thought patterns and behaviors that contribute to anxiety, depression, stress, and low self-esteem.

Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT)
Increase understanding while processing emotions to promote healing, emotional regulation, and stronger relationships.
Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT)
A goal-oriented, strength based approach that emphasizes existing strengths, resilience, and practical strategies to support positive change.

Trauma-informed Counselling
Grounded in safety, choice, and empowerment, this approach recognizes the impact of trauma and supports the development of effective coping skills to improve well-being and functioning.

Attachment-Based Therapy
Explores early and current relational experiences to better understand patterns in relationships, emotional needs, and connection.

Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)
Evidence-based approach that supports the development of effective coping skills to manage intense emotions and improve relationships. DBT balances acceptance and change, increases a sense of feeling understood while working towards meaningful behavioral and emotional growth.

Narrative Therapy
Focuses on separating the self from problems while reshaping personal stories in ways that highlight strengths, values, and preferred ways of living.

Family Systems Therapy
Considers individuals within the context of family and relational systems, supporting healthier communication and connection.

My Approach
Tera Theriault approaches treatment collaboratively working with individuals, couples and families to illuminate how the presenting issues may have developed, the impact they are having and how to take action to improve individual and relational functioning. The therapy type used will be determined following the initial assessment in collaboration with the client.
